according to the historian Herodotus, some of the tribes that dispersed after the Trojan War (1200 BC) settled in this region and lived intertwined with the local people. The Hittites came to these lands in the 16th century BC, slaughtering about 600 people and taking control of the area. Although all of Cilicia was invaded by Great Antiochus between 224-188 BC, thanks to the strong defense of Korakesion, this city managed to remain independent.
During the Byzantine period, the city was referred to as Kalanoros, and in the 6th-7th centuries AD, fortresses and religious structures were built for defense against increasing Arab invasions. Today, many castles and churches in and around Alanya bear traces from those times.
